I wondered what sizes of wire you would need for general car work. Sheet metal mainly.

I assume you need a different nozzel for each size wire. (?)

Gator several years ago when I was ready to buy a Mig wire feed welder I got some good comprehensive information from TIPs It was Truman automotive I think then, they sell the Lincoln 110
VAC and the same basic welder in 220V. with a longer duty cycle, they will send out a pamphlet and a catalog. When I bought my Lincoln at Lowe's it came with a video about useing the wire feed welder, and yes I think it takes a different nozzle and the feed tube for different size wire, it does for useing aluminum wire. I just buy the same size that came with the welder, K.I.S.S. you know!

But are you calling me "sweetheart" or "stupid" in K.I.S.S. or hey, hey, maybe its' "stud"????

Thanks for that info about Lowe's and the idea of getting some feedback from the companies themselves. I will do that.

I take it that you are pleased with the performance of the 110 machine and that it meets most of your welding needs. Right?

My preference in wire size for all gasless welding is .9 mm and gas welding is .8. 1 problem with gasless is spatter which needs to be ground off but as someone else said it works in windy conditions. Gas sheild produces next to no spatter but dont work in windy conditions. My machine is a cheapy with 4 switch positions and works well upto 1/4" material, thicker than that the old stick machine gets a workout.
Gasless wire (flux cored) is dearer wire but you dont have the gas bill to worry about.
Either way it is easier to control heat distortion with mig probably because it takes less heat to melt the thinner wire.

Thank you for that information, Tony. I would like to not have to worry about the gas, gasless sounds more convenient. Guess I need to try both and see what works best for me.

Gator, I bought a lincoln weldpack a couple of years ago and I am very happy with it. I got it at sears. I tried cored wire and gas there is a lot less splatter with the gas and you dont have the problem of flux contaminating the weld, flux in the weld can give you fits if it is not all removed befor you paint. I prefer the 022-025 wire takes less heat and dosen,t warp sheet metal as bad as the 035. My welder came with a video if you want to e mail your address i will send it to you

No problem, I have 'miles to go...' before making a final decision. Will be summer-time; maybe it would be wiser to use a welder in the winter-time??

Still haven't gotten the welder, late May or early June is when I will have some time to study the makes and models and buy one.

I just purchased a Miller That is both 110 and 220 it's a DV model all you do is just put the plug adapter on for the out let that your using and the welder automaticly switches so you have the best of both worlds it cost me 1086.00 out the door with out any assy. Or extra wire already comes with wheel kit and extra solenoid for using 2 tanks so you can be welding steel and switch to alluminum just by picking up the spoolgun no messing around.

Sounds good Tim, if I had that kinda ready cash I would have bid on that MOM reverse injection kit on eBay....I have been giving the little Lincoln 110 core welder a work out, the longer I use it the better I like it, I haven't needed the Mig attachment yet just been doing some additions to my shop buildings, it works good on purlin and 4" square tubing and angle iron. Anything heavyer than 3/32" and I will go to the Stick machine.

Too bad that good ideas cost so much money. :( :( :(
