"Gaslighting" comes from an old Hitchcock movie (1949): http://www.reel.com/movie.asp?MID=2331 Good flick (excuse me, "movie"). Gaslight means to trick someone by making them think that they have gone nuts (sorry, "crazy"). Didn't you go to the movies in the late 40's? Spanky what is a "228 CID inline 6-cylinder rated at 115 HP" which is in the truck?

Gator, Yes I went to movies in the 40s, Hoppy, Jack Holt, Wild Bill Elliot, Gary Cooper, Oliver and Hardy, Roy and Gene, John Wayne, Clark Gable and Tom and Jerry, Woodywoodpecker, but I only saw Hitchcock later on the Telly, and not a Gaslight, did it have English sub-titles? I would not infer that you are crazy, well maybe not. Here we go again Waaaaay off topic!

My favorite movie stars JYD, Shhhhhh don't tell (don't want to get in trouble with the 'subject police'). Now on subject, is there a "228 CID inline 6-cylinder rated at 115 HP" in '53? And there isn't a carb coming up thru the floor by the gas pedal, what's the deal, here?

The 228 cubic inch 115 Hp engine is a GMC-not Chevrolet engine. The engine has an up draft carb.(like a '29 Chev) and the air cleaner is mounted on the firewall.A tube runs down to the carb. intake. This was done on Chev and GMC COE'S.And Humphrey Bogart!!

Hey Gator, If that '53 COE has the original engine in it, it is a 248ci. 6cyl. rated at 125hp., according to my '52, & '53 GMC truck spec. sheets. Doesn't show a 228 being available in these years.

Chevy Nut, The air cleaners were indeed mounted on the fire wall on the'47-'54 GMC COE's,& the '54, & '55 1st series Chevrolet COE's, but on the '47-'53 Chevrolet COE's the air cleaners were mounted under the cab, on the right side, with a combination metal, & flex tube running around to the carb.
