Does anyone know what rear axle ratios are available for the C30. I think the highest out here is 3.73 but I am thinking there possibly may have been others a bit higher in the US.

That is the problem. The donor vehicle is unknown and details have not been recorded. It is drum brake but so are all other models as well. I would guess at 80 - 85 out here as that was about the only time they imported them on large scale. For some reason they werenot popular here. There are still a few about but not many.

The most common ratios were a 4.10 and 3.73.The 3.73 would be most commonly found with an automatic transmission. Its not a bad ratio for high speed as the C30s used a large tire size. That was the highest ratio available (lowest number)

Chev nut I thankyou for your replies. It confirms what we have found out over here since I first posted. Next question, what is the availability and price of the 3.73 centre and pinion? Can you find out approximate cost of getting it here into Aus? Dont do anything definite at this stage in case we find 1 local but all we have found are 4.56, 5.1? and 5.6?. All are like slugs probably originally behind 6 cyl as there werenot many with v8. We have also been told that the main housings are the same but crown carrier is different for 3.73 and 4.10, considering we have a 5.1 the carrier (centre) will have to be changed as well. Tony

The truck originally 37 chev 1 1/2 ton but has had c30 5.? grafted under it but for purpose it is now being used for it is preferable to regraft 3.7? under it. The exact model c30 axle is unknown done by previous owner.

I have a stock 37 Ton & half with 5.43 that cruises at 70 MPH all day. Those dinky one ton wheels & tyres may be your problem. . . If you go back to stock rearend with 20" tires, you could install an overdrive in the first torque tube or a NVG 4500 transmission from a 1991 - 2002 Chevy truck with overdrive high ratio of 0.74. . . .You might want to look at web page < http://la.znet.com/~c1937/RPM.htm > to calculate your exact ratio for that next trip to Ayers Rock.

Lou If it was my vehicle you are right but the owner is streetrod mad, no chev deserves to be chopped as much as this has been even if most parts used are later model chev or GM offshoots. He bought it as a 3/4 finished project with the ramped tray already fitted which wont fit 20" wheels. There is just enough clearance for the 16" that are there now.
