need to find out if dual tires came out stock in 1952 on a 1 ton chevy pickup with split rims. chevy

Dual rear wheels were not available on pick-up trucks.Were only available on stake trucks or models with out rear fenders.

just wanted to respond to chevgene.......the 3803 series of the 1 ton pickups do have dual tires. this was straight from factory. we have been doing our research. most commonly seen on other models such as flats but also on some pickup. not as common as the single axle but they are out there. remember this is a 3800 series not a 3100. :cool2:

back in 1960's when I went to work in the oil well wireline perforating business the company I worked for had some 52 ,53, and 54 one ton dual wheelpickups. Chevys and also Fords with 11' gun beds and our company had bought cabs and chassis, and sent them to a custom fab place in Fort Worth to have those special beds mounted, they looked like a factory job with oak wood covered floors sides and tailgates, because the perforating guns that they hauled contained high explosive charges and electric blasting detonators.

If it is a pick-up with dual wheels what does it use for rear fenders???It would require an extra wide fender as on a modern dually and there never was such a thing in 1952 nor is a dual pick-up fender listed in the parts book,This sounds as if it was a custom made item. What Chevrolet literature did you find this in????

also the 3803 is listed as a chassis and cab,a pick-up is a 3804.That leads me to think that your truck was born as a chassis and cab and a custom box was mounted on the back as per MrMacks post.

our 52 chev pu does have the original factory plate still riveted in the door. it states that the pu is 8800 lbs. factory. it was manufactured in oakland, ca and was the 157th one made that year. the pu bed is full 9 ft. and the duals appear to be original right down to the split rim wheels. not sure about the floating rear end, though. the fenders are not all like the 1/2 ton or the 3/4 ton and appear to be factory. the fenders are actually welded into the bed & go inside the bed approx. 6 in. before going out to cover both of the dual 18" tires. there is a mud flap to cover the back portion as needed. all your responses are great!! still in the learning process here and sounds like a real rare find which was bought from original owner. chevy

most of the one tons that we looked at do not have beds - but rather a wooden flat be type. the bed of this one appears to be just like the 1/2 ton models right down to the wooden slats. we would be able to order replacement bed parts from the filling station. the pu has been stored in a barn the last 20+ years, so is in relatively good shape. chevy
