Well it's been a long 9 days. I'll post an abbreviated summary of what happened over the past week, further down in this post... but FIRST -- here's where we stand:

TODAY
A company called “halfpricehosting.com” --- until this past Sunday hosted VCCAChat.org for the past 5 years. As of today our Discussion Board is now being hosted by a DIFFERENT COMPANY called "iinet.com". We have migrated everything to them and are up and running now. You should experience no further problems -- and if you do, then please let me know ASAP. This was very painful and I apologize that we couldn’t resolve it quicker.

LOOKING FORWARD -- A NEW CHAT PROGRAM chevy

yipp Great job Bill!!! Sorry to have bugged you a couple of times but when I got the error message that I was not authorized on the site, I thought you were up and running and I needed to do something. I later found out others were getting the same message. Nice to be back on the BIG chat site!! Stuart (Beamer)

Bill, I don't have a clue as to how to thank you for your perseverance and intelligence in righting this sinking ship. Weaker minds would have given up very early in the pursuit of providing us a place to chat.

At this point all I can think to say is: THANKS!

Agrin

The only thing strange that I noticed is that the date and time seem to be off. It's tomorrow already..........or did you send me to Australia?

Way to go Billy Boy! I know the hell that you went through during the past 8 or 9 days to get Chevy Chatter back up for the "gang". You truly are a miracle worker, and the VCCA should be extremely proud and privileged to have a person of your caliber as administrator of Chevy Chatter.

Thanks from all of us on this site!!!

GREAT WORK BILL!!!

All seems well with the exception of the "time stamp." Seems to be 5 hours ahead of time.....

That doesn't seem like to big of a deal. Especially compared to what you've been through!!

Again, CONGRATS AND MANY THANKS TO BILL!!!

Bill.

ALL --- I just changed the time stamp as Bill was posting his note --- unbeknownst to both of us...

It's seems correct now.

Dear Bill,

Thank you very much for all your hard work on this site! This site really adds value to our VCCA memberships.

Having worked in IT for many years I have an inkling of what you went through.

Best wishes,

I've noticed that a lot of you are coming into the Chat site from bookmarked entries. Therefore it seems that you may have missed seeing the link that I posted yesterday on the HOMEPAGE at https://vccachat.org

Here it is:

Looks like the time stamp is still incorrect. I posted this message at 7:30 PM PST and the time stamp says 00:30.

My thanks , also, for the work done in fixing the site and most of all for your continued support of the chat space. You won't recognize my name because I seldom post -- only when I feel I have something useful to offer -- but I check the site religiously several times a day and have felt something missing from my life the past few days.

Boy, I must lead a dull life!

I have a 1927 coupe which I bought in 1957 and particularly watch the 4-cylinder topic. I imagine there are a lot of users like myself whom you don't even realize are addicted to the Chatroom.

Thanks for all of the kind words and emails today. This was one of "those" weeks. I learned more about UNIX in the last 48 hours than in the last 15 years.

We still have a couple of possible bugs:
a) The time on the server was off by 5 hours!! That's kind of Amazing. I opened a trouble ticket with the Hosting company. They should have it fixed by tomorrow or so.
b) There appears to be a minor slow-down in our performance on this new site. We'll have to see what it's like in a day or two after all of the caches are fully populated.

Hopefully this is the extent of any remaining issues. Then we can get on to the next chapter!!

In the meantime, I'm going to renew acquaintances with my better-half. chevy

Bill,

The two points you mention are true. ("Time" and "slow.") Good to hear you're on top of them also.

Actually they seem sort of minor compared to what the situation has been the last 8-9 days. I'm sure we can live with them for a bit.

Thanks again for all you do for us!!!

Bill.

Many thanks from Aus, like others have mentioned it was a lot of hard work.
A possible cause of the slower speed is the software that converts from unix the windows. I am about to throw windows out the window (pun intended) and use linux which is a version of unix. There are some windows programmes that wont work with unix / linux or the convertor programmes but windows will work quite well as a linux task (boot in linux and select windows as a task).
I have also been told virus in linux is rare and not many hackers know how, hopefully this will be to our advantage.

Thanks for your dilligent efforts to administer and correct the problems. Well done!
I had to enter a 12-step program to rid myself of the no-VVCAChat withdrawal symptoms. Looks like I'm off the wagon and back on chat!
