I have a 1950 chevy 1/2 ton pick up truck. The engine was swapped with a 261 cu. in. I need to change the water pump and found out I need a short shaft pump. I was unable to find a short shaft pump in my area but found a new 1957 chevy pump that would work. The pump shaft is to long but found out I could press the hub to the desired height and cut off the excess shaft. The existing water pump pulley was pressed into the shaft. The bolt pattern on the pulley for the fan blade does not line up to the new pump pulley hub.
The hub on new pump has 4 bolts and the spacing is 1-3/4" diagonal. Does anyone know where I can find a pulley. The height of the one that came off is 1-7/8", the OD is 4-1/4" , and the pulley belt is 5/8' wide. I have a little wiggle room on the height, I could get buy with a height of 2-1/2".
I'm not sure if the crank pulley is correct for the water pump pulley. Crank pulley is 6" OD. water pump pulley 4-1/4"
Thanks in advance.

. I've run into this problem a few times and resolved it in a different manner. Please read <http://home.znet.com/r1937/WPump.htm>. . You can purchase the ready made adapter plates at Jim Carter's Truck parts, <sales@oldchevytrucks.com>, 800-842-1913, Part number #MEE390.
. The 1954 water pump has better flow and designed for non pressure system. The 1955 & newer used pressure. If you pressurize an old radiator and heater core, that's pressing your luck. You can also use the stock fan belt and not have to search for a special size belt. . Lou .

There is a custom pulley made just for the short shaft water pumps that has the correct bolt pattern for the later 55-62 fan blade & the correct groove for the 3/8'' belt but, as far as I can tell you have to buy the whole kit with the pump to get one............... SS PUMP
