Hi folks, finally getting my Grandpa's 50 4-door Styleline Deluxe back on the road, got a bunch of stuff rechromed and now need to repaint the medium dark blue accent color on things like the hub caps, vertical trunk handle, grille, etc. I see that Chevs of the 40s sells 1/2 pints (not cheap!) of blue paint, seemingly for this very purpose. Question: can anyone verify that this paint is a good match for the original color? Thanks!

Most stripers use 1 Shot paint. None of it is cheap. A half pint is almost $40. In the last few years all automotive paints have gotten very expensive. A friend who owns a body shop locally tells me insurance companies are refusing to pay the full cost of paint for repairs so he's having to charge customers a surcharge to cover his cost.

Great, thanks Tiny, I just checked and 1 Shot is what Chevs of the 40s sells. Now I'm back to wondering how close a match that shade of 1 Shot blue is to my original blue.

There are a couple of shades of 1 shot blue. I have no idea which TFS is selling.

As a rule, The Filling Station is a very reliable source for parts and information. If they are selling the paint as being the correct color, I would buy it without hesitation. If it is not "dead on", it will be so close that no one will ever question it.

Thanks Mike. But it's Chevs of the 40s that has the 1shot paint I'm looking at, not The Filling Station (see my original post . . . I didn't notice that Tiny wrote TFS instead). I'm guessing folks have the same confidence in Chevs of the 40s? I think I'll just go ahead and order their 1 Shot blue, unless someone warns me off.

I Shot, as others have stated, is a great product; I have used it often. But, as you note, it is ridiculously expensive. A good and much less expensive alternative is “Gloss Royal Blue” oil-based from Rustoleum. The color is just about perfect and the price is a quarter or less than 1 Shot. I have used Rustoleum on hubcaps, etc., and it has held up well. Just make sure to scuff the areas to be painted before applying. Rustoleum also carries a red and a white that are virtually the same colors available from 1 Shot.

I don't know if you have Krylon brand spray paint on the left coast, but I used it on my 1950. I used Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Gloss Regal Blue #51901 and Rust-o-Leum Metallic Goldrush #7270 for my trunk handle as well as the hub caps. I think they turned out very well. ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/WyCpcRr/023-Copy.jpg)
