Hi All,
I am taking the oil distributor out of my 1931, 194 CI engine to see if it is varnished up etc. After removal and a fast cleaning, the inside "valve" did not shake loose from the housing, it does however move freely in the housing. I would like to remove the valve completely to give it a good cleaning. I do not want to force it out of the housing. I am now soaking the parts in some cleaner. Can or should the "valve" come completely out of the housing without some force? Thanks in advance.

Well, I answered my own question. If you soak the housing in your favorite solvent and give it some time to work the valve does come out of the housing without using any force at all. I hope this may help.

After removing the valve from the housing and giving everything a thorough cleaning, I noticed that the spring was broken and was no longer where it was supposed to be. I think with a little work I can replace the broken spring with springs that are available. Does anyone have the specification for how much pressure it takes to compress the spring. Any help on load values or a replacement spring would be appreciated.

Te spring is the same for 1931-1934 engines. Perhaps some one has a complete unit that you could rob the pring from.

Bru,
The only diagram I have is in the "Chevrolet Manual" on page 41. I was having the same problem with not getting oil to the rockers, that is why one of the reasons I removed the oil distributor as stated above.

Great photo. Don't forget the gasket that goes into the housing before the valve is installed.
