I'm trying to disassemble my doors to clean them up and replace most of the wood. i want or need to remove the skin. i'm almost there but i think the door hinges need to come off? i have the middle one off and my main question is (are the special screws that hold the hinge to the door frame available?) i'm a 50 year auto body guy and the door has been a challenge to say the least. for a 92 year old car its hard to believe that those nails can hold as good as they do, i finally made a tool to pull them.

Not sure if you are looking for the screws that attach hinge to metal door frame. I have some that I used on my 32 coupe not sure if they are the same? Maybe someone will have that info here. Dave

If you are referring to the large slotted fillister head screws that hold the front metal door pillar to the cowl, they have not been available. I use socket head bolts to replace them where they can't be seen. So far haven't had to make any yet.

SORRY, the screws I'm looking for are the ones that hold the door hinges to the door frame.

I certainly don't want to tell a 50 year auto body guy what to do, and IDK how the 31 doors differ from 28 doors, but wood can be replaced without taking the door skin off on a 28 at least. There are tricks to it, but it is doable, if taking skin off is daunting.
I would say over 50% of my screws for the hinges, I had to heat the surrounding metal to get them to back out. The rest came out with just hitting the end of the screwdriver with a hammer first.

If you're having trouble breaking the screws loose and there's room to swing a hammer you might try a good old fashioned impact driver, a very hand tool in the tool box. If you've not used or seen one the how to use starts at 1:30 in the below video.

i think i have found the screws. The Filling Station in Lebanon OR. has them listed in their catalog, i'll have to call Monday. i sorta wanted to take the skin off so i could sand blast the inside and the frame. also some of the bolts that hold the wood in some places are nearly impossible to get to especially being frozen. i could have spilt the wood from around bolts then cut the bolts off, but i want to save the wood for a pattern. i made a small pry bar to remove the nails that helps a lot. i didn't see any way to get the glass out easy without removing the skin. removing the window channels is the proper way i believe. with the skin off the glass just slides out the bottom. now its time to start making the wood parts.

Last time I checked the Filling Station had the screws on back order. That was a while ago so they may have gotten some in lately.

they have them listed as GM-1029, 5/16-24X1" TEMP OUT. they also have GM1030 5/16-24 x 7/8" as in stock. the accrual measurement of mine was about 3/8, thats measurement of the thread length or lower portion of the bevel, i believe thats the correct way to measure. i don't think length is a problem there's plenty of room inside the door frame where they screw into. they also list 5/16-24X1/2
