I have the metal vents to attach below the dash for defrosting the windshield. Where was the fan placed to blow air? Was there a defroster on cars without a heater? This car had a heater installed but it leaks so I have it disconnected and do not plan to reconnect it (good weather car only). I was thinking it might be nice to blow air on the windows if they fogged up in humid weather.

I have found that having an old car is a constant project that is never done. I think that is a good thing. Keeps me learning new things. Having two from different eras is just a form of higher education.

If it's the same setup as on my 38 there's a separate housing sitting atop the heater box that contains the defroster fan and duct connections. You can see a peek of the heater/defroster on my 38 below. I have a better picture but can't find it right now.

I have that exact heater but it does not have that box above it.

That's what you need to look for. There are knock-outs on top of your heater box where the defroster mounts. If you look at the photo closely you'll see the defroster blower motor on top of the 'box' you reference with the ducts attached to it. When you turn the defroster on it pulls heat from the heater housing up into the defroster and out into the ducts. If you close the doors of the heater and turn the heater fan up it'll help drive more air into the defroster if you need more output.

The heater/defroster unit on my ‘37 is very similar to Tiny’s.

I expect that my unit is for a later model car. I have 2 defroster outlets on the housing that contains the defroster motor and fan. In 1937 there was only one defroster outlet in the dash for the driver’s side of the windshield.

You need a heater to have the defroster as it gets the heat from the top of the heater.
I would suspect your heater was taken from a different car that did not have a defroster.
The defrostr will not remove summer steam from the windows as it does not pull in fresh air.

Thanks for the update. If this is the case I will install the vents and the ducting when I do the wiring in the dash and tuck it all up in the dash. Then it is done if I ever get a hearer. If not it is done and not hurting anything there.
