My friend has an unrestored '30 sedan that had the engine removed years ago by a shop that went out of business. The engine was rebuilt by a local machine shop (not the shop that removed it) and is set to go back in. I've agreed to install it for him. Yes I know, bad idea, but I love a challenge. I've inventoried all the loose parts that were with the car and it appears that I'm not in bad shape...most everything is here. I do have an issue though: the flywheel needs a new ring gear and I'm not sure it is original to the car. It has a casting number 837006 with a casting date A 3 3. The the machined surface for the ring is ~12 3/16" in diameter. The ring has 104 teeth. I've spent some time searching the "interweb" for the 837006 part to no avail. Can anyone tell me it this is the correct flywheel or at least an acceptable replacement? Will the ring gear available at The Filling Station fit?
Sorry to be so long winded...thanks in advance for any help! Al

The casting number 837006 does not show on any of my lists. It is in the range of numbers for 1932 - 1934. The date code A 3 3 indicates January 3, 1933. If so it will have three locating pins instead of the four locating pins for the late 20s to 1931 flywheels. Given that I would conclude the flywheel is a 1933 and not correct for the '30 Sedan. However it might be able to be used with the matching pressure and clutch plates. If that is the conclusion Al Suehring ( https://www.suehring.com) should be able to help ID and also supply the needed ring gear. https://www.suehring.com/contact-us/

Are you sure it is a 1930 engine?

Pretty certain it is original, casting is 835501, 2/13/30 date code. Crank has four bolt holes and the locating pin for the flywheel.

To be clear:
The engine casting is 835501, with a 2/13/30 date code
The flywheel I have has a casting number 837006 with an A 3 3 date code which I am assuming is 1/3/33

The three arm pressure plate with A 3 3 date is clearly a 1933. The 1930 pressure plate has four (4) arms. The '33 flywheel, pressure and clutch plates might just work on your 1930 engine. The advantage is the '33 clutch plate has springs to reduce chatter.

The owner says it was working fine when it was taken apart to rebuild the engine. Now that I look at the 29-41 version of the parts catalog, it is apparent that it is a '33 flywheel/clutch disk and pressure plate. The surfaces look good on the parts I have so I'm going to order a '33 ring gear and a new disk. We'll see what happens...thank you all for the help!!!
