I had trouble getting things fine tuned with my original Carter carb but had a left over autolite carb from a 6 cyl mustang (200 CI). I thought I would swap it to see what would happen. Come to find out that I didn't have to modify anything on the car and only modified the throttle hookup and choke levers on the carb to make it all work. It has been working well and my original is in a box ready to go if needed. I think this is the only mod my car has other than tempered glass on the side windows.

If you want to retain a manual choke the carb from a early Bronco or early Econoline van should work since they use the same engine.
