YES R TERMINAL IS A BY PASS TO THE COIL FOR FULL 12 VOLTS ON START,BUT YOU MUST HAVE A DIODE IN THE CIRCUIT TO PREVENT FEEDBACK,A DIODE IS A ONE WAY GATE FOR CURRENT.

I didn't use the R terminal and have had no issues. She lights right up on 12 volts.
