Were the stamped "CHEVROLET" letters painted white on the tailgate for a 1949 3100?

I see pictures of AD trucks that show some tailgates that are solid color and some that have the raised portion of the letters painted white (or maybe an off-white). I cannot find any sales literature that shows this area of the truck.

Thanks!

They were not painted from the factory.

Thanks Gene. That seems logical because in that time period trucks were sold for work and all the manufacturers did everything to keep the costs low. Stenciling the rear gate would be extra work and materials.

The original 36 37 and 38 did not have any kind of lettering raised or not on the tailgates

....but if you HAVE to have it, you can get one with the lettering on it.....or at least I could back a few years ago when I did my 37 pickup...but I went plain like the original.

1937 Chevy 1/2 ton Pickup
1950 Chevy Styleline Deluxe Coupe
1953 Chevy 1/2 ton Panel Delivery

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hubcap than ride in a Ferd.

If you want Chevrolet in script on your 1936 - 38 Light Commercial Open Express (Correct name for a pickup) you can buy a repop 39 tail gate. If you own a 1940 - 53, a 1940 repop will fit. There was no name on Canopy Express or Suburban tail gates. . .
. If you want your Chevy original, only 1939 and 1940 had script on PU tail gates. Advanced Design had block letters.
