Do you have an oil bath air cleaner or the standard one with the copper mesh?

Sounds like an oil bath aircleaner, they are much better in my opinion.

If it's like my 51, the standard stock air filter also has to be soaked in oil before installing in housing.

This is another first time poster. Will be interesting as always to determine if he/she returns

If it is a person who primarily uses social media to communicate I doubt it. Their expectation is an almost immediate response. Most forums do not work that way.

I have found this forum to be pretty quick. 5 minutes for the first response in this thread!

If it is an oil bath air cleaner it probably wants SAE 50 weight oil (not used much anymore, but available in Valvoline brand at Napa). Any motor oil should be fine in a pinch. There is likely a line or mark on the side of the pan for oil level.

Clean it out and change the oil now and then. When these fail it is usually because water that got removed from the air gets underneath the oil and causes rust holes.

They do an excellent job of filtering air.

Seems like my assessment was on target. We have not had a response for the original poster.
