I just sold my 67 mustang that I restored for the last 3 years. I am looking to get into a Chevy pick up project. 1941-54 are the ideal years are am looking at, the 3100. I need some solid advice on how to locate a car and how to get started. Here is what I have found so far.
Buy an old chevy off of craigslist, Facebook marketplace, wherever. I am hoping to spend under 5k for the starter car I live in Boston, I have been told to find a car on the west cost that won't have as much rust. any truth to this ?
1. should I do an S10 swap. Everything I have read says to a swap out the chassis and find a doner S10. Do I need to do this or can I keep the original chassis 2. I am looking to put in a 5.3LS motor and transmission 3. I would upgrade the rear end as well, TBD
I am not looking to keep the car original. I want to build a modern running truck, redo the interior and keep the classic look. For the outside, it depends on the condition. I could keep the patina or paint and bring it back to new. Depends on the vehicle.
Any insight would be appreciated. I am doing my research and really want to get this started as my winter project
thanks

Hi Jared, Your posting is a bit confusing as you switch from car to truck and back. In any case you may be better served on another Forum. This Forum is basically devoted to restoration of original condition. Some minor deviations are accepted, but not complete revision of the vehicle. Perhaps someone will join in here and suggest a Forum for you to take a look at that is more in line with where you wish to go. Have a great day, and stay safe. .

Hi Jared, As AntiqueMechanic said, the main focus of the VCCA is preservation and restoration. That being said, there is a subgroup in our club that embraces non-stock Chevys. Here is a link to their forum, where your questions might get some replies that are more in line with what you're looking for: Pesonalized Modifications group forumAnother place to look at is the Stovebolt website. Most of the trucks in that group are modified to some degree. Here is a link to their corner of the internet: https://www.stovebolt.com/Good luck with your project! Cheers, Dean
