Thankyou Antique Mechanic. Will gap points and plugs accordingly.
Would you please also tell me the firing order of the 4 cylinder? Worth checking.

The ”˜26 I’m trying to get running WANTS to run. It has sat idle for months and months. It coughs, burps and runs for 1 or 2 seconds. Then dies. The float bowl is full of fresh gasoline. I’m already suspecting a bad float because the bowl is full to the top. Spark it strong.

I guess I will pull the carb apart this morning and look for crud and corruption. Also test the float to see if it actually floats or sinks.

All advice appreciated.

The carburetor bowl should only be 1/2 full. Higher levels cause too rich a mixture that does not properly burn.

Hey Skinnedknuckles,

Welcome to the VCCA's website! This is definitely THE place to get answers to questions and to hob knob with folks who have old Chevy syndrome. ;-)

I highly suggest that you get a copy of the owner's manual and the shop manual. Back in the day, these publications provided basic education, in addition to specs and how-to info. You can get these from the vendors that support our hobby, like the Filling Station, Gary Wallace, and Marx Parts, but you'll also find them on ebay.

If the float in your carb does indeed float, then I suspect it needs adjusting. With the carb upside down, bend the little tang that moves the intake needle so that the float is parallel to the carb bowl seat when the needle is fully closed.

Don't forget to celebrate each and every step forward.

Enjoy the journey! Dean
