The switch is on the 3rd - 4th shift lever. Reverse lights would be hooked to reverse lever?

could be the TCS (Transmission Controled Spark) switch. on pollution controled cars the spark advance vacuum was routed thru a solenoid that allowed vacuum advance only in 4th gear. this switch activated that solenoid.

In my muncie parts manual it is listed as TCS. I didn't know what that ment. Now I understand. It's nothing I need!

a good buddy once brought his chevelle into the shop for us to replace the clutch. while under the car I noticed the unused switch on his transmission. I wired it so the horn would honk when he hit 4th. never laughed so hard in my life when he brought it back and was trying to explain what was happening. it was a good thing he was a friend.
