I have a good friend who I am trying to get into VCCA. He has a 1963 Corvair Greenbrier with the factory/dealer installed camping option. Needless to say it's very rare and this is done to factory correct standards in every respect. Vehicle has won many many awards.
What class would this vehicle be in? He has documentation and dealer brochures for proof but this option would not show up in the VIN # or data plate.
I will see him soon and give him VCCA info (again) and hopefully he'll join. Would love to see this seldom seen option at Bowling Green.

As I understand it only the Greenbrier part will be judged.

Slight correction, the Chevrolet built part will be judged for condition and authenticity. That is also true for an official Chevrolet Accessory. If the addition was by and authorized vendor or outside Chevrolet converter they are also subject to condition and authenticity. All those items are judged up to the Judges ability, knowledge and research.

Just to add to Chip's comment. In a case like this the owner should find and have copies of as much of the original documentation, and have it with them when showing the vehicle. It would not hurt to inform the Team Captain prior to the vehicle being judged that it could be an area of question, and that they have documentation. I have a lot of early 60's Chevrolet "paper" and I have seen the camping package shown in that literature.I had seen it outlined in a monthly publication that was sent to Dealers called "Communication Central." It highlighted the retail end of the business, and if I recall the article correctly. It instructed the dealer to set it up in the showroom and offer local contest's with prizes for 10-13 year old children. Emphasizing "PARENTS MUST BE PRESENT TO AWARD PRIZES" thus allowing the sales team to make a sale. Not necessarily the camping package on the Greenbrier, but an opportunity to sell them something. It was to get people in the door..If was sold by Chevrolet it will have a part number and that is also helpful to present.

There was a similar camping package offered from GM in the mid-70's for the hatchback vehicles. I was at a Cosworth Owners Round-up a few years ago and someone had one. It was pretty cool to see. I almost bought one on ebay for my Cosworth just because it was so unique.
