I have what appears to be a 3 speed 34 1/2 ton transmission . I can not find the casting numbers in my parts book. Serial # DB25433 or maybe DB25633. Case number 590715, cover number 590591. I thought all 1/2 tons were 4 speed ? Thanks

I would figure if number is not in any Chev parts book it's probably not Chev. Anyway the date code is March 11th, 1925 or 1935 or 1945? I would expect it may be Pontiac or other GM.

You will need to look in a replacement trans number book. As the transmissions wore out the factory, over the years, made replacements, under a different casting numbers for the year issued. The originals were painted black. Most rebuild shops painted them blue so they could tell if it had been rebuilt by a local shop. This was common practice.

Dick,
Having owned the same '36 PU since 1965 I think I have the information on that trans your seeking. Please let me know if you'd like to discuss it privately.

That is the transmission that I have in my 1936 GMC T14. The three speed was standard and a four speed was optional. 1936 was the last year that is was used in small trucks.

If the case is from a 1935 or prior the speedometer gear will be below center if the rear shaft. If for a 1936 above center.
A 4 speed was always an option for a 1/2 ton truck.
