VCCA members have access to a list of over 50 Technical Advisors who can help you with your car. It's worth the price of membership! While you can get a lot of information for free in this forum, sometimes the info that you REALLY need is only available from the right person. This is what "The World's Best Chevrolet Club" is all about!
You should be getting the monthly G&D magazine. If it is not coming, then send a note to VCCA member services.
So far I haven't gotten anything, but was probably notified of something...I thought reading here on VCCA that the newsletters were reduced to 2 issues to reduce cost, but maybe I misunderstood that.

Yes, apparently you may have misunderstood. When you become a national member of the VCCA you automatically get a 45 page color magazine EVERY MONTH. The magazine is called the "Generator & Distributor". If you just joined the VCCA recently it will probably take a month or two before you get your first G&D.
Alan, you joined the VCCA only three weeks ago on October 14. It'll take a few more weeks for the first copy of the monthly magazine to arrive in the mail. While you are waiting for the G&D to arrive by mail, you can look at past issues and other useful information on-line by going to the VCCA home page, log in and go to Members Only drop-down and click on G&D Magazine.

Guys, I embarrassingly admit that while I was down visiting my Mom in SoCal, the first issue came on Sat.
If I get 12 of these a year for my membership, that will be worth it in itself.
They also sent membership cards, 2 of them.
Somehow I was reading a thread that implied the VCCA reduced the issues to 2 per year to reduce the shipping costs...sorry...this is a pretty nice newsletter and has some good contact info for parts and such. There's even an article on a Corvair in there...I know someone that has one. I call it the Ralph Nadar mobile...LOL The cool thing about the Corvair is that it has an air cooled engine in it, but it has the oddest setup for a belt that I've ever seen on an engine...a big long one that wraps up and over the engine. It works though, not as elegant as the 911 engine, but those are kind of cool cars.
It's going in the bathroom, this is good reading material. cool
Nice quality glossy pages, touche!
aland, I suggest you explain these two lines, otherwise the thread will be considered for locking.
Well, nothing to explain really, I am leaving my magazine I just got in the bathroom, similar to how jtroberts showed...nothing bad meant by it, the magazine is XLNT quality, the glossy pages look GREAT, and that's where I'll read it...sorry if that offends you, maybe fiber in your diet will help.
EDIT: I should add, I haven't received a very warm welcome here. I've been questioned more than once if a '46 truck is even what I want, and somehow my posts are being read between the lines. I am a friendly guy, not trying to make enemies. I might be better off over at Stovebolt. They seem to encourage people to work on and fix their old chevys...that's what I'm looking to do.
I think the club should send each new member a club hat like the one advertized in the G&D. I never got one free. I had to buy it. It is worn out now. Must get another one soon. I'll start saving my pennies. If I could figure how to get it by the missus I could order one tomorrow. She complains when I spend money on my old cars. What does she know?

I think you would be happier in a SLINGSHOT THONG , like Borat wore in the movie. It would garner all kinds of attention for you at the shows and hopefully you will get peoples choice for your non FULTONED vehicle , a 41 special deluxe I hear.
I've spent a good amount of time trying to figure out you last post. Not getting it. Slingshot Thong instead of a cap? Really.
Aland,
Humor is something on the chat that requires a heap of understanding of what the humor is about. As time goes by we will eventually catch on to your style of it. Will too!
I want to welcome you to the club and I'm sure others want to express their welcome as well. I hope you don't choose to leave us.
Here are some of the things I appreciate about the club:
a. The G&D each month. It has come a long way from what it used to be as far as more professional production is concerned. The stories, pictures, vendor ads, the for sale stuff and the high amount of expert articles by Gene and Ray have been a real treat. It is also informative about what is going on in the club.
b. Chatter: I spend more time than I should on here. It is a joy to be able to communicate with others like minded Chevrolet enthusiasts. Especially those that we all consider experts: Bill, Gene, Chipper, Ray, Uncle Ed, Ruscar, Bob, Mike (all of them) and a host of others. All you have to do is pose your questions about that pickup and you will get the answers you need. The forums run the gambit and focus on the cars one is interested in so that there is no chaos looking for stuff. The search is a treat even sometimes it doesn't work so well for me. Mike Fuller is always encouraging us to use it. There are several other items that appear in the Chatter that are of interest to most all of us. Gosh, just look at the vast amount of old pictures that have been posted. Bruce is a great contributor to this forum. Tony from down under is a great contributor when he's not on a walkabout.
c. Even though, on Chatter, I have stepped on toes now and then, I have apologized and I hope all those dissed have forgiven me. It seems the case anyway. For that I am truly grateful. We also have a few members over in the Netherlands and Germany who we love and appreciate for their often extra effort to keep their old Chevrolets restored and running. Great guys.
d. The clubs regions and chapters host many tours, shows and flea markets. They are noted in the calendar pages of the G&D. Get that pickup in good road shape, stick a boom and hook on the back of it and follow a tour. If there are any 37/38s on the tour then it is likely your services will be needed.
The above is just a glimpse of what is available to members. There is much, much more.
Please stick with us. I don't think you will regret it. Please don't let your instant hurt feelings inappropriately dictate your actions at this early state. Instead look for the silver lining in all things, include this excellent club.

My problem is that I have used online forums for many years, I have been a software engineer for 35+ years and ran a BBS in the closet of my apartment when I lived in Tokyo for 5 years and in Los Angeles for 7 years after I moved back to the states. I have been back in the States for 30+ years.
I am not politically correct, not in how I speak, not in how I act, or anything closely represented as such.
I was born and raised in California, and our slang is unique, even offensive to many. Even women working in high tech use the F-bomb as casual conversation...but that type of language is not suited for VCC Chat, that much I understand. I use extended ASCII for profanity, that was how nettiquitte was intended since before the Internet was here as we know it in '94. But still people take it offensively...
I don't know how well I will fit in here on VCC Chat. I think there's a slightly different mindset.
I am of the DIY type, I like to take things apart and figure out how they work. I break things, but when I do I fix them right.
On Stovebolt it seems the members are more similar to me, and I don't mean to offend anyone with that statement, just that they are more of the DIY types that are not afraid to roll their sleeves up and get greasy...just like me.

I will not leave, but if I post will be the $64k question. A forum is nothing without active members, and I know that I can stir up conversation with my posts, it is the way I am. However, I've been banned from various online forums due to my views, language, or even having a different opinion than the moderators. After 60 years I am not going to change too much, IMO, although I try...I can't be someone that I'm not.

This G&D is worth the price of membership for me, even if I don't use the VCC Chat forums. It's a beautiful magazine and after I did get it in my hands, I can see how nice it really is. I thought I only would get 2 of these, but 12 of these a year is an incredible deal.

That is sure to happen with me, I offended people with my comment about putting the G&D in my bathroom. Purely a misunderstanding, I meant no harm with the comment, only the finest of reading material makes it to my bathroom. After a period of time my wife will make me clear out the top of the toilet and start over, but invariably they will build up again. It just all depends on where my interest lies at the time.

I don't know how active I will end up being with the club, I want to get a log home built and it will require as much energy as I can put towards it.
The 1946 pickup is something I've wanted for a long time.

I will be around even if I don't post, I just am not sure how much I will post here. I have thick skin, but the bigger problem is if I am honest with people, it's usually not appreciated. Honestly is not something people like to hear and it's the only way I am.
I somehow sense that the people here will eventually have a problem with my style. It is just how they are and how I am, and not sure that I'm a perfect fit here. I will just sit back and take it easy for a bit here and watch things. Not anxious to get in any harsh debates with people, not looking to step on toes, and certainly not looking to offend people...but again, I am who I am as we all are. Time will tell...
Still wish this site had a like button for comments, so that you could let the author know that you appreciate the post even if you don't comment on it. I like the last two posts pretty good.

Alan, Again welcome. I don't know the brand but I have a couple of pairs. Even had a pair of black leather wingtips. Don't know where they are now. Am #2 just after BB to join Chat. Also a nearly 50 year member and was deeply involved in VCCA politics. So I have had to wear mine quite often. Also have heavy duty "rain" gear. Try to be open and contributor but occasionally that little red guy with a pitchfork that rides on my shoulder gets in a prod or two. I understand that 98% of people are decent and upstanding most of the time. Miscommunication is all too common. As my mother pounded into my psyche "always look on the bright side. If it is dark turn it over."
As a nearly 50 year member of VCCA I have thoroughly enjoyed my membership. I still participate in a multitude of events, mostly tours. Cathy and I go on an average 6 VCCA tours each year. We have our extended family all over the USA and even some from overseas (Norway, Australia, Switzerland, .....). Being a dedicated truck guy (11 so far) I appreciate working vehicles. Yes I have a few of the "pretties" and even some with all the creature comforts but basic get down and dirty has my attention.
My advise is to drive around the chuck (intended) holes. Do it safely and help fill them as you can. But most of all keep driving, there are rewards just over the horizon.
Again welcome. I don't know the brand but I have a couple of pairs.
Chipper,
Birkenstocks are mostly known for their sandals, but the unique detail about them is the cork footbed, and these steel toed models are made of poly, but have the cork footbed inside, so they are comfortable. I love them in the shop, as I am always worried about dropping heavy things on my feet, I have a bit of metalworking machines and most metalworking I do is on heavy objects...(I say most, not all). I have a pair of red wings and someone will need to pull them off my dead, cold feet, but my wife is Japanese so we don't wear shoes in the house and the slip on style clogs with steel toes are perfect, where the 8" high red wings not so quick. They actually work out ok for welding, but I prefer my red wings for that.

Miscommunication is a problem on the Internet, but also in person, it's just worse on the Internet as you can't see expression.

Another version is that some of us have slightly different way of typing the same message which makes things a little difficult. I doubt anyone here means to be nasty. Tony
