I have one in the garage now. Had it for many years. Drove race cars for 20 years and used it weekly for them. Still works good.

I'm not an electrician, but how does it convert to DC? Rectifier?

From fellow on AACA a transformer and two diodes. Full wave rectifier circuit. That is a circuit breaker on the bottom next to the diode holder. Diode holder is at the end of the enameled transformer wires. which make sens looking at it

The links won't open for me without a google account and I sure wish I could see them, but there should be a rectifier inside like you said. Possibly a couple large heavy duty diodes as the battery isn't picky if the voltage varies and is a bit dirty.
Simple and heavy duty is the best for these. Had to buy one for work and it's hard to find a charger that does not have a computer controller in there somewhere these days and you know what will fail first don't you...

Tim Most power reduction units (battery chargers, plug packs and similar) are of the switch mode design but dont ask me to describe operation. It does produce a very stable voltage output at fluctuating amperage demand. Tony
