Having run out of mechanical things to do, I thought I'd "beautify" the interior a bit. Anyone know the story behind those glass bud vases mounted off the inside rear pass posts ? Were they period correct for a '32 ? Installed by dealers ? Or owners ? With Hershey coming up, it might be a good time to go a looking. idea

The bud vases were an aftermarket item, popular in high-end closed cars in the 1920s and early 1930s. They would be period correct for your '32, but are not an original Chevrolet accessory, so they would result in a point deduction if you had the car judged. If that's a concern, you can always remove them for judging.

There are quite a few collectors of the old bud vases still, and you do see them quite often in Hershey. In addition to clear glass and crystal, they were also produced in porcelain, carnival glass, ruby glass, and uranium glass (which has a vibrant yellow-green almost neon hue). There is a lot more information available about them including a couple of collector's books. Just Google "automobile bud vases".

And, by the way, I will have a pair of them for sale at Hershey in spaces OBE 24 & 25.

All the Best, Chip

Thanks Chip. I just read up on them. Interesting history of the "first deodorizer". "...THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE FIRST VASES CAME IN ELECTRIC CARS TO OVERRIDE THE ACRID SMELL OF BATTERY ACID~~"

My car is about as high-end as I'm going to get and I don't worry too much about judging, at least yet. Besides, this was my wife's idea.

We were hoping to find a pair of clear vases with brackets if possible. I can't attend Hershey myself but do have a couple of "agents" scouting around for me (w/ $$). I'll tell them to stop by your space. beer2

Was planning to stop by and meet chip anyway Charlie. I’ll give you a call once I’m there.
