Was the straight axle and knee action both available in 39’ and on what models. There’s a nice 39’ business coupe being advertised as a Master Deluxe and it has a straight axle. I thought the knee action was used on the MD series but I don’t have much knowledge on these cars so I’m asking.

Thanks for this Dave, it really helps. Now another question. Was the pickup coupe available as a master deluxe or just a master 85. It sounds like it could have been both trim levels but both would have been on the master 85 chassis. Does that sound correct?

The 1937 and 38 Standard (straight axle) frame will interchange but have minor differences. The 1937 and 38 Deluxe (Knee action) frame will interchange but have minor differences. The 1937 - 38 Standard and Deluxe frames will not interchange. The 1939 used double A arm front suspension on JA. The JB (39 straight axle) was called "Master 85". The 1937 - 1940 passenger car straight axle are the same with 26" between bolts. The 1926 - 1954 half ton front axles will not fit the 1937 - 40 passenger cars as they have 24" between bolts. Exception: If you have a 1937 or 38 Limousine or Taxi, it comes from Chevy with an adaptor to use 3/4 ton axles. . The coupe pick is listed as Standard only (37-1271P) on Fisher ID tag. One could purchase the pickup insert from parts and make one. The Fisher tag would read (37-1271). Mine is a deluxe and the tag reads (37-1071P). Go figure?? Lou
