I have owned my '51 for 18 years now, stock drive line, 3 speed stick.

My transmission fluid level has not disappeared and the rear axle fluid level has not overfilled .

I need to add oil in my 52 transmission, a little every year but never the rear end.

Thanks for all the help.

While I enjoy a little humor and I am a big fan of satire I think a disclaimer might be in order to not lead us newbies astray.

Folks don't have to be newbies to be led astray, facts must be stated, as we know them.

This was my initial concern with this thread ....... folks would get the wrong idea by assuming disappearing tranny fluid is the "norm", in torque tube Chevys..

It is not the "norm ".

A worn torque tube seal / bushing allows this fluid transfer to occur.

If transmission fluid DOES disappear, and no external transmission leaks are viewed, the fluid is going into the rear end, through the torque tube.

The rear end is then running with too much fluid, which can cause "foaming " within the fluid of the rear end, which is not correct.

OKIE bushings are sold and installed within the torque tube to PREVENT this transfer of fluids from the transmission to the rear end or from the rear end to the transmission.
