I attended the tour seminar by Dave Miner at the Lake Tahoe meet. I purchased his tool booklet, and used it as a guide to collect the following tools. I found them at swap meets and eBay. I tried to clean them up and painted them a cast colored paint. The jack is a universal jack. I have seen them NOS in the box painted green, and blue. I decided to paint mine blue, since my 38 Chevy is blue. The tool bag is from Chevs Of the 40s. I finally made a shadow box to display them. Hope you like it.

P.S. Does anyone know what happened to the Dave's website www.1940chevrolet.com

Looks great. They all look different cleaned up. The jacks are spendy - even the Universal. Where did you get the sticker for the jack?
Reminds me I just found something tool related I need to email to Tiny.

The original color for the jack was a kind of green drab and did not have a sticker on it.
Also the tools came with the car when new and were in a box. After 1949 when the tools were sold as an accessory they came in a bag.

Very intresting. The first one I ever saw that was not green. Wat is the accessory number on the end of the box?

Very cool to see in the box!
When new with the car, were the tools inside the bag and then the bag inside a cardboard box or was everything including the pouch tossed in the box? Looks to me that in the coupe from the factory, everything including the jack was tossed loose in the tray nearest the trunk lid?

This jack was never used in production. The 1937-1938 jack that came with the car was the ratcheting type and 1937 and 1938 were the same.It was easy to I.d. becuse it had a lock bolt to clamp it to the bumper backet..
The jack pictured is a friction type jack and was sold for all GM cars as a up-scale accessory. It is first advertised in 1939 literature and is not shown in the 1937 an d 1938 accessory manuals.
