YES! There is a trunk for the 33. It does not have the chevy bowtie. It is solid black with bright metal forming a ring around each end. You need the accessory luggage rack to mount the trunk.

It this what it looks like?

Were they all made by Potter? Did some have flat tops vs the rounded top? I see there are different sizes, some a little larger than others. 33 x 14 x 14 to 37 x 14 tall x 16 front/back.

How did they attach to the luggage rack? Leather straps? Something else?

Thanks,
Doug

That appears to be the correct Potter trunk. They came in different sizes depending upon the size of the vehicle.

The trunk bolted to the rack.

{The trunk bolted to the rack.}

Take that bit of advice with a grain of salt. Very few of us who have tied up to $1,500 in a trunk and an alike figure in a rack will grab the old Sears power drill and punch 4 holes through the trunk bottom and the rack. I have a perfectly restored rack and it looks like a million bucks when it is in the folded up position.

I have a second rack that is not restored and I am considering restoring it only to the point of straightening it and a powder coat of gloss black. Will not install the stainless strips that go on the front of the rack.

And then again, I may not install the trunk. Does not set off my "like" button when I look at it from several views.

Yeah, I had already looked at my rack with those nice perfectly polished stainless strips and noodled that a bit.

IF I can find a correct trunk at a decent price, i BELIEVE that it can be installed for shows and such by placing a rubber pad down on the stainless, and using some hardwood strips under the rack for the bolts to go into, sort of "clamping" the trunk to the rack.

In any event, a correct trunk would be a nice accessory to have, even if it is not installed onto the car.

The question asked by DeMelton was: "How did they attach to the luggage rack?" and the question was obviously referring to the original installation of the Potter trunk on the folding luggage rack.

The answer was: "The trunk bolted to the rack".

The posted answer to DeMelton was not giving advice on how to install the trunk, rather it was answering DeMelton's question on how the trunk was installed originally!

The Potter trunk on my 1932 cabriolet was bolted to the folding rack as original, and no holes had to be drilled during the installation.

It goes without saying that due to the current value of the both the Potter trunk and the rack, caution should to be used today during the installation to avoid any damage to the trunk or the rack.

Looks like DMelton has figured out a good solution on how to bolt the Potter trunk to the luggage rack once he finds the Potter trunk that he is looking for.

That pictured trunk is exactly like the one pictured in my bad copy of a USA 33 Chevrolet salesman's data book.

I have racks on each of my 35's standards.........coupe, phaeton, roadster. The trunk would just gook up the visual look of the cars.
