Does anybody know what the 2 tabs are for on the left and right sides of the tailgate are for? They are aproxamately 4"long and 1-1/2" wide. They are located on the sides where the tailgate. Where the chains would atach to bedsides. I really can't figure out what they are for. They don't apear to be added on by anyone at any time. I had bought the tailgate used.

Do they have holes for the tailgate chain hook? The dimensions given seem longer and wider than I recall, off hand, for my '37. Maybe, Tony will chime in here with some info.

I cant add any information. My truck had a flat tray only (and seems to have been built that way).
I have seen a 37 "ute" (pick up for you above the equator) but didnt take any notice of that area, was really only interested in the box to cab joint. It was also quite a few years ago.

The dimensions were just a guestamate. I Actually went and measured them. They are 2" wide and 2-1/2" long. They are about 9-1/4" downward of the rolled top of tailgate. They are factory tacked in i beleive.

If they look different from the one shown in Leagl's posted photo above, I don't know. Can you take a photo, post it to a photo sharing site, like photobucket, picturetrail or some other, them post the link to that location here? Maybe a photo or two will help unravel the mystery?
