I am helping a friend restore a 55 vette, 265 PG. My question is about the upper gen bracket and the correct finish. I am having a very hard time finding a factory frontal photo of the corvette engine. From what I found it looks like the bracket is black. If so should there be any orange overspray on it from the assembly? Was the bracket held on with a stud bolt used for the water pump, or was it fastened behind the bolt? With the engine cradle it would make sense to me that if it were fastened behind the bolt then it would have been installed prior to final engine paint, if it is on a stud then I can understand it being black without any overspray. Once I install the waterpump/cradle assembly I do not want to touch it again, seems like a real bad leak waiting to happen! If any one can even refer me to a frontal shot it would be of help. Thanks, John Mahoney

Hi John- I'm pretty sure the bracket is black, and that it is attached on the outer end of the stud bolt and held in place with a nut. This way fan belt adjustment can be done without breaking the water pump seal every time. I've never seen any overspray there before. You might want to ask the experts at http://www.ncrs.org/forum/nftech.cgi Good luck- SPEEDLINE

HI John,
You sure are busy!
The generator bracket is black. It was painted off the engine and installed with the "srud/nut" you mentioned.
(I confirmed this with a plethora of photos in my library.)
Check that car out close - since being the first V8 there were differences between early and late production.
Case in point, the carb and throttle linkage. Bellcrank carbs (carb with the linkage attached on the pivot) were used on VIN 001356 and earlier.
If your car is after this VIN - then it uses the simple rod arrangement. Carb base has no pivot .
Oh yeah, those valve covers are chrome - scripts not painted! :p
If you have some clearance issues with the front U joint and the floor pan, you can shim the engine under the front passenger side mount to alter this clearance (don't be surprised if the U joint hits the floor pan)
