Thanks. I'm still not so sure I understand but I do acknowledge that that vacuum does get lubricated. I don't think I ever said it didn't but I want to keep my head. So I hope my grovaling is successful.

Ok, so does anyone have a picture of how the linkage goes on the cylinder? I took a picture but I must have deleted it.

Is this what you want?

I thought I would try to just hook up linkage without the vacuum cylinder. Heck it shifts so easy why would they put this thing on it to begin with?

As to the clam shells and the boot: abrasive dirt and grime.

As to the vacuum cyliner, it easier shifting for city drivers, women and future princes. They weren't thinking about blacksmiths and red-necks.

BTW: I hope all out there are enduring the winter satisfactorily. As for me, thanks for asking, it could be much better. Like yesterday. The missuses's car has a flat. The sun was a-shinning, the birss a-singing, the temperature was in the low 80s. Even all bundled up, I wasn't about to go out there in that. Brrr. I sure am looking forward to Spring. Am too!

Skip ahead to 6:00 minuets in the video. When the thing is working and adjusted correctly, it almost shifts itself. Hook yours up as in the video and see I it works like shown.
