Have not seen a '52, without the rivets.

Something is odd here, with the one you pictured.

I have heard that some Fisher Body plants used rivets and some welded.

Well, we now can see rivets and spot welds from Kansas City plant, on two different 1952 serial number tags.

Hi Bob,
Glad you finally got thru your DMV nightmare. My 51 built in K.C. has the riveted plate as well. In seeing your plate, I bet someone in the ancient past may have drilled out the rivets and removed the plate to paint the car, then spot welded it back on. That's my theory.

I don't know if your local AAA office provides DMV services, but here in CA I was able to circumvent the DMV b.s. by going to AAA to have the VIN verified on my 51. The clerk at AAA went out to my car, accepted the number on my firewall as it agreed with my KS title, and a few minutes later I had my plates in hand. CA sent my CA title in the mail shortly thereafter.

Look into that when you go to register your future Corvair.
Good luck and onward!
Cheers.

Hi Rick,

Yes, I "believe" the issue with my serial number and the NC DMV has come to a conclusion, I pray.

The pics you speak of are not mine.

Instead, those "spot welded" pics are those of another poster, who stated the serial number tag was spot welded on, in 1952.

From my research and working with the NC DMV and their sources, '49 and '50 tags were screwed on, '51 and '52 tags were riveted, while '53 and '54 were spot welded.

The "objection" to my serial number tag was not the rivets.
The Shop Manual shows an "example" of a serial number tag, but my tag did not look like the tag in the manual. SEE LINK BELOW WITH A PILLAR ILLUSTRATION.

It came to light that the tag in the shop manual, was a serial number tag from a pick up truck.

That concluded my episode with the NC DMV.

P.S., Not having good luck finding a good '65 to '69 Corvair yet.

Well, I spoke too soon. The above posts, written by me, stated the witch hunt was finished, I have an email from the NC DMV Inspector, stating all was well.
Today, 4-11-17, I received a phone message from the SUPERVISOR of the D.M.V. inspectors .... once again, they want to reopen this witch hunt. I called back, had to leave a message.
This all began on October 11, 2016, 7 long months ago.
If anyone out there has a '49 to '52 CHEVY TRUCK, I would truly appreciate a pic of your serial number tag.
OK to block out the last few numbers on the serial number tag, but do need the FIRST FEW LETTERS AND NUMBERS of the serial number, on the tag.
It appears, once again, the NC DMV wants my serial number tag to look exactly like the serial number tag in the front of the GM SERVICE MANUAL.
I will try to attach a pic of that page, from the GM SERVICE MANUAL.
Look at figure # 61 ...... that is the tag I need to have taken, from your truck .. thinking that tag is a truck tag. I'm told it is.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
