Recently purchased a rear window frame supposedly from a '50 convertible. Correct size but it's cast aluminum. Is this correct or should it be stamped steel?

gpallen2,

The rear window frame on my '50 is a chrome plated casting. Actually two castings, one inside, one outside, held together by screws from the inside.

Thanks Jim, As a "convert" from Fords, I had never seen an original rear window frame that was cast and thought it might be a repro, although the dimensions seemed correct. Guess I'll pay a visit to my friendly chrome shop! Thanks again,

By the way, since my car didn't have a top when I got it, I don't know the correct spacing of the bows in relation to the rear tack rail. Anyone have those measurements? Thanks,
Gene

Allen,

The Fisher 1949 "A" Series Bodys manual (available for online viewing at http://chevy/tocmp.com) goes into considerable detail about the Hydro-Lectric convertible top construction and adjustment. However, the spacing dimension is not mentioned. Indeed, convertible top fabric replacement is not even mentioned!
I will measure mine it and send it to you.

Thanks Jim, trying to put one of these things back together from total disassembly is a BEAR! Particularly when you didn't take it apart! I'll probably have more questions as I get further along. Thanks again,

Gene
