I am looking at a 1971 Chevelle Convertible with resent rebuild. I know it is not original engine as numbers don't match VIN. It is being marketed by P.J. Auto World Inc., Clearwater, FL . www.pjsautoworld.com The VIN is 136671R126293 Car ID 100721597 Stock Number 9328. Has 402 CUI V8 with 4 speed was advised by dealer was built in Arlington, Texas Assembly plant. I am concerned this might be a a clone(tribute). Can some one assist me with what they thing of this car and what does VIN say about car.

Thanks Don

Don, from the pictures this looks like a fun ride that would give you lots of excitement going through the gears. From what is on the car things were done well in the restoration. The sport steering wheel, the SS dash with correct guages, interior has bucket seats with no headrests. They look like pre-69 seats. The shifter and console look OK. There are three other "red flags" that I see. One is no pictures of the engine compartment, rims and tires are not correct though nice in apprearance, and there is no build sheet or window sticker to prove SS options. Usually SS had F-41 suspension with bars in front and rear. If the dealer can't show paperwork to document then it's "buyer beware." The tires should be bias ply and there were two rims available, both Kelsey Hayes. ONe is 14inch square hole rallyes with hex caps.

Optional 15 inch grey rims similar to Z28 in apprearance was available. [Linked Image from chevellestuff.net]

The ones on the car presently are earlier rallyes with radial tires.
