I just received my 3 piece '54 front bumper. I bought it from a seller on EBay that has great feedback. I opened it up and looked at one end first. The inside is not too nice looking. The outside chrome is very nice. I have never seen a re-chromed bumper so I do not know how the inside should look. It has brown areas too. Any help would be appreciated. The seller will send a call tag and refund me. He is an honest seller. Thanks! Alan

The backside of the bumpers is never done, I use POR 15 steel coating on the back side to protect them.

Can any old rust etc. on the back ruin the chrome over time?

No.....
Some rechromers blast the rear surface to remove rust and the old nickle plate.Makes for a better looking job.If you recoat the surface use silver (Pro 15) as thats looks more original. When new the factory covered them with a very light coat of silver paint.
