I am replacing the injectors, but cannot seem to figure out how to disconnect the connector on the harness to the injector. Help

Your 1996 Monte Carlo shop manual should give you some information regarding the connector.

It doesn't say how to disconnect them. I may have found the solution on one of the 5 or 6 Utube videos I have watched. Have to try it on Tuesday. Most of the videos jumped right over disconnecting the harness connectors.

The "manuals" are not written with Joe Average in mind.
Instead, the writers of the Chevrolet Manuals are speaking to the "pro tech", who has knowledge that we do not.

The video said to press the tab. My connectors had a wire clip and once I pressed the middle of them, they slipped right off. Cleaning parts today and will start reassembly tomorrow.

Finally found a utube video that said press the tap to disconnect the harness. Mine have a wire clip and by pressing it down, they popped right off. Got the injectors in today, now the upper intake and hook up all the things I had to take apart to get to the injectors.

Curious. Why the replacement of the injectors ?

It has 64,000 miles on it, we bought it new. In the last 4 years we have only put 325 miles on it. It was time for smog and it was missing. Had a Chevy mechanic work on it. Plugs and wires were replaced about 20,000 miles ago. He ran 2 cans of injector cleaner through it and drove it 100 miles. Tried to smog it 3 times, finally got it to pass the third time. But right after that it started missing again. His suggestion was sell it, but it's mama's car, so I decided to change the injectors. Should have sold it.

Well I got to experience changing out injectors. It didn't correct the problem. Any idea what would cause random miss fire on different cylinders? To me it must be ECM or something electrical.

A scan sould tell you which cylinder is missing. I had that problem and it turned out to be a plug wire. Also use nothing but GM AC Delco plug wires.

Some auto parts stores will do a scan n/c. Some sensors are expensive so it's best to know if you have a defective one rather than trial and error. Also if the car has sat for a long time it's possible the sensor just needs cleaning.

The mechanic I used had the correct GM scanner. He said before he got it smogged it was missing on different cylinders. He worked on it and got it smogged, but it started missing right away. He said it jumped around to different cylinders. Don't know what I am going to do with it.

The scan should put out a fault code. I would try a different mechanic or better yet a Chevy dealer. I had a 92 Buick Century wagon with a similar problem and it turned out to be be the mass air flow sensor. It only started missing above 50 mph when accelerating.

I don't think it is the injectors myself, that problem does not "jump around" it stays consistent to the cylinder, seems like it could be fuel distribution or pressure problem. I would try restricting the return line with a vise grip on the rubber hose and note any changes. By restricting the return you will boost the pressure to the injectors. Could even be bad "O" rings on the injector seal. Check the IAC should be four wires going to it. Jump out the test ports on the computer, you can use a test lamp and you should have voltage at each wire if not, then ECM is problem. ECM's are pretty cheap but seldom go bad I just had one for the first time go bad in mother-in-laws 87 Celebrity, no codes either.

Need to confirm fuel pressure at the rail before you start looking, if the tech did not do that, then find another tech

No solution for the miss, but a solution for the car. I am getting rid of it. Mama says it can go, have a guy that is interested in it. If it falls through I will donate it. I have already put to much money into it.

It is for sale as a mechanic's special. If it doesn't sell it will be donated. I did run a compression check on the 3 front cylinders. 2 & 4 were 120 lbs. # 6 was at 90 lbs. That is the one that my scanner says is missing. Didn't do the back 3 as you have to move the engine ahead to do that and I'm done with it.

Scheduled to be picked up by the donor tow operator on 6/9/16. Will be glad to see it gone. It's 20 years old this year.
Had it for sale out on our busy street and on Craig's List. Did not receive rolllaugh one phone call on it. I have never been able to sell any thing.
