Maybe. Mine had half the mounting plate left and it was a ordeal getting that half out. I did not want to leave it as their is rust one can not get to in between the two pieces. So starting with what Bruce has would have been a lot easier for me.

Mine also were rusted away on the bottom half. I carefully uncurled the bottom lip, removed the remains of the old backing plate, cut new ones, attached studs with J-B Weld, slid the remade items in, then re-formed the bottom lip. Worked out fine for me.

I will tell you one thing, it really has changed on what you can find on e-bay for the 48...20 years back...it was a field day and best thing, the sellers had very little knowledge of what they were selling and prices were great

Dale,

Yeah, like a woodie kit for just a few hundred bucks, huh?

Question:

a. Owing to the fact that you cannot belong to the Fleetliners Club, do you feel inferior?

b. Are you annoyed by the Fleetliner clique?

c. Have you ever considered getting the fleet line trim (complete with trimmed skirted and put them on that Convertible? You know dress it up some from the plain-jane that it is right now?

d. How adding the wood. Now that, with the skirts and fleet line trim would make the Fleetliners salivate. Would too! did you ever get that old 216 running right?

e. Whenever you Stylemasters encounter a know Fleetliner, is it expected by them that you will kneel and bow your head. I think such respected is reasonable, warranted and expected.

f. What is the penalty for not showing deep heart-felt respect for the Fleetline hierarchy? Having to listen to them for an hour? Having to wash their ride? Having to invite them to a surf and turf dinner at Chris'?

What say ye to these searching questions? We out here in the sticks would like to know?

Charlie, Charlie -

First, I think of myself as an honorary Fleetliner Club member because my first car was a 1948 Fleetline Aerosedan. Cousin Dave and I rebuilt the engine from that car, but the body was so rusty (how rusty, you may ask?) that there weren't any inner fenders left to attach the rear fenders to. They were tack welded on to the rear quarters with coat hanger wire. I was in college and I had bought it for $40. Cousin Dave decided we could do better, so we junked the '48 (kept the engine) and bought a 1947 Fleetline Aerosedan! Long story, but short version is, got married, wife didn't like Fleetline body style (sorry guys), so let the Fleetline go and eventually got the convertible.

Yes, indeed, Cousin Dave and I have the 216 humming. Still need to put the hood back on the car, but that's a project that will have to wait until spring as Janice and I are down in Florida avoiding the cold and snow in Cleveland for a couple months. :-)

Dale,

Enjoy yourself down there. It is a mess right now from the Carolinas on up the coast. Ice here in my part of the storm band.

I hope all our friends are well protected from the elements this winter and that there are no roof cave-ins that may damage our old vehicles, among other things.

Best,
Charlie
