By "light" green I would say like a plale green. Not a medium green or a dark green. Anyway, that is the color underneath by totally original 1951 sun visor.

I sent Bruce 2 pics of my green center support. Not knowing if it is the actual factory color, since the beginning, but it has been with me for 16 years. Perhaps Bruce will post one of the pics. I don't do that so well. hood

Here's one of the two pictures Bob sent me. I was thinking it would be darker than this, but you guys are thinking lighter?

Bruce,

In reality, the color is a bit darker. The flash lightens up the green, just a bit.

Never realized how big, until I took pic. No, it does not block view. You can bet the visor doesn't flutter.

It's up under the part you're not looking through, and behind the mirror...

I just went out & checked one of the NOS 49-52 Car sun visors I have. {GM Part # 986433, Group # 10.201}.

It has never been mounted or painted & the underside is a considerably lighter shade of green than the picture that Bob supplied.

This was included with the original installation instructions...

I agree! That is exactly the shade of green that my original 1951 sun visor is painted on the underside.

For certain, mine is not the light green, as shown in the link.

The underside of the visor on Ken's '48 seems to be close in green color to mine.

Mine is a Pontiac visor, so I've been told, if that is a reason for the difference in color.

Remember....all visors were green but not all were the same shade of green. The visor sold by Chevrolet was a lighter green than the Pontiac, etc. GM did not make the visors. They were made by outside companies and sold by GM makes as an approved accessory.
If I remember correctly yhe Fulton visors were a lighter green.
The Oldsmobile Cadet a darker green.

The light green color shown looks, to me, like a 1950 mist green or a 1952 honeydew.

From 1949-1952....GM out-sourced all 2 piece visors to outside companies {The Dieterich Co. & Precision Products}.

Precision Products:

Dieterich:

Starting in late '52...All 1 piece "ball cap" visors were made by GM.

{The only exception would be the 2 piece visor that was offered by GM in 1953 only for the trucks and that visor was made by Dieterich ... GM part # 986877}:

1953 only 2 piece truck visor:

GM produced '52 Pontiac hard top 1 piece ballcap visor:

GM produced '53-54 car & '54-55.1 truck 1 piece ballcap visor:

Gene is correct on the darker colors.
The Pontiac visors were a darker green as evidenced by another NOS visor in my collection that is still in the original box.

I was told and used "duck boat" green which is designed to not reflect duck hunters boats. You can buy it in a spray can at Home Depot. It's a lighter flat green color like the picture.
I didn't paint my center bracket then my painter painted the whole visor top and bottom and bracket car color green. Then I made him redue my underside duck boat and he called me and asked me about the center bracket and I guessed it should be car color so he repainted the bracket. I'm NOT changing it at this point, but my car is already green to begin with.
Hear ya on the trim screws I put on one last weekend and did the same thing, tighten it to a point of dent. So I bought the shortest ones I could find and will have to do a little grinding to cut their length in half and hope they thread. And of course fix the new screw bump. Fortunately the trim will be mounted on the visor which will give it a more rigid position when buffing etc cuz that trim is very flimsy.

Thanks for all of your help guys. I'm going to go with the darker green, as thats how I remember all the one piece ones I've seen up here as being. Thanks for the pictures Bob and Mothertrucker.

I'm going with the dark, after looking at Mothertrucker's photos. I trust him on his experience with visors. My visor would be a Pontiac one if it was USA built. I also recall only ever seeing the dark green up here, as all I've ever seen are the one piece Pontiac/Chevrolet Canadian ones.

The visor that Mothertrucker showed on the link below is light green on the underside...which matches my original 1951 USA Chevrolet sunvisor exactly.

That's a 2 piece USA built Chevrolet visor.

Check his other link to the Pontiac visor...

Exactly! That is what I was referring too in my post above because I did mention that my visor was a "USA" visor for a Chevrolet. The Pontiac visors were a darker green on the underside.

So the darker green underside on mine, as shown on the 12/30 post, is OK, being that it's a Pontiac visor ?

I just talked to Dad on the phone. He's bought two visors in the past. One for his Dad's black '51 Chevy that he inherited back in 1963, and one for his Uncle's (this car) that he bought in the later '70's. Both of them were the dark green on the underside. When this car was painted in 1981, the visor was also painted. The underside was incorrectly done the same colour as the top of the dash. I'm surprised GM didn't do it that way originally. It looked nice, and I've never had a problem with glare from it...
