L&L Antique advertises model information on runningboard reproductions of originals. A long shot...He might give up his source if asked right. 417-476 2871

There's a guy in Alberta who makes reproductions by milling a rubber slab. I'll look up his site.

Pat. thanks. I already went round & round with the mat guy in Alberta. I waited over a year for him to make the incorrectly, not to mention the money.

Ken. Thank you also. It not just a matter of putting rubber on the boards. This is a restoration & it has to be correct

....Joe

Joe
have the correct ones on my sedan but my wife was complaining about my spending habits so my 27 touring car with 28 4cyl has some incorrect running board mats. Just got myself another set of 26-27 Jaxon wood spokes cant wait to hear about that!

Mine doesn't complain about spending habits. She figures it keeps me out of bars & keeps me away from wild women. We both know more things need to be completed in the house but she also knows Aug 2016 is important to me. This car has to be done before then. Avanti....Joe

At least you have the option of purchasing the correct mats. Mine were never reproduced.
Yes some wives will do the reverse talking. Sheri & I don't do that...Joe

If your using I AND I reproductions runningboard matss, use the contact cement they sell.

The original maker of the mats , jim McConville spent a week at 3M trying to get a contact cement that would bond the rubber to the metal.

I believe its 3M 10 bond

I used the contact adhesive that I&I sells and it didn't work. Finally ended up using a high grade commercial adhesive formulated for gluing on vinyl tops. Got it from a local vinyl top shop and it worked great!

Yep, but I have no idea as to what the number was. I just went into the vinyl top shop, told them what I needed, and they poured some of the stuff in a glass jar for me. That adhesive was fantastic! Anyway, check with your local car upholstery shop and see what they have available.

Enough people on this board and 1933--1936 Chevrolet owners have bought and installed their I & I running board rubber mats. This is the first time that anybody has posted that the contact adhesive sold by I & I did not work correctly.

It was mentioned to me last time I bought another set for my new car the 35 roadster, by I & I, there is a shelf life period to the contact cement .

My original installation for the coupe back in 1972, and still on those metal backing plates , involved the JIM McConville recommended 3M 10 bond contact adhesive.

Jim spent a week or so at 3M facilities experimenting with contact adhesives that would work with the rubber he was using.

Use my knowledgeable advice or ignor it, your choice

Oh! So you want to go to the source? Well, today's rubber manifacturing plants are located in India. Here are a few of the main plants that might be making your part. You will have to go to India time as it is night there when day here. They are very serious in the exact production of rubber parts.
Town Name Phone
Deli Daijex Auto Industries 91-9873068607
Banaskantha Unitech Motors India 91-8045139190
Pune M Tek Engineers 91-8048022521
Jodhpur Vinayak Steel 91-8041949809
Bengaluru Gd Crystal Corporation 91-80-41471784
Mumbai Ajanta Enterprise 91-9953353156

They might even be able to direct you to the exact plant that will make your part. These names are through my English friend in the United Kingdom. Good hunting and the best of luck.

I had a pair of NOS mats for a sample. The problem is the company didn't allow for shrinkage so they have to build new dies at their expense to proceed. I'll have a pair on my car at Tahoe but the samples are beautiful...better than McConvilles...Joe

Thats a tall order to make them better than McConvilles.....my 33 sets from Jim purchased back in 1983 still look and fit better than NOS

I&I ones today for the Master using McConvilles molds/materials seem to be the same.

Good luck with the set Joe its awesome that you are doing this! ok

Jeff

Mine are recessed on the back side to accept the factory metal mounting plate & the curve on the front edge is molded in. Jim made a great product so don't get me wrong. His services are greatly missed. Regrettably very few will be using my mats as not many exist today....Joe
