The serial number on the left A pillar will tell you where and when it was made.
As far as the selling dealer goes, there ae no sorces for finding that. wel2

The serial number will show where it was built. Being that the car is now 65 years old, unless you can trace owners, finding the selling dealer will be slim.

Get out your serial number and follow the link below.

As most folks bought a car in their area not to far from the dealer, look for ads in the local news paper archives at the library in your area. Looking on the net also for newspapers ads in your area can help. Sometimes the dealer is still in business. Contact them, small town dealers often keep records that go way back. As you already know the year and county most likely; some states keep licence plate records. Start in your county courthouse first and if not there expand to the state level. Also, look in the glove box for any clues, old receipts or under the seat/floor board, etc. Old oil change stickers on the door post or door can give it all away as to location. Good luck in hunting!

Most dealers from 65 years ago went out of business, especially the small town dealers.

Going back 65 years, whether through existing dealership records or county or state records, finding any 65 year old records would be a task. In my GM career, dealership sales records were not kept long, not 65 years, for certain.

Family of the previous owners could be the most helpful, if still around.

A tough task, but worth the effort. dance

When I first saw this car in 2004, it was headed for the shredder. It had no front clip, and no interior. What caught my eye was that it was a 2 door fleetline with powerglide. It also had a PA Antique plate. Further inspection revealed that except for the rear quarters and rocker panels the sheet metal was near perfect. The floor panels had about a half inch of tar on them but were solid steel. I don't know how to load pictures or I would show you. When I brought it home along with some assorted junk, I found a pocket knife in a tool box that had a car key as the second blade. The key fit the doors and ignition. I finished the fixing up after 5 years and have been driving it fir six. It's now a Show, but I love it. I sometimes wish that I had had the money or skills to make it look like some of the Frame Offs that I've seen, but...
I had the name and address of the original owner, but he was deceased and the family was not interested in providing any history. Any help from any of the members would be appreciated.

Pete

Did you use the link I provided, along with your serial number, to determine where the car was built?

Considering the family has no interest in providing info to you, one could assume that the owners home address would have been near to the dealership, where the vehicle was purchased, when new.

Find library copies of newspapers from 1950, within the owners home area, you may see an ad of sorts, from that Chevy dealer.

You have to love the hunt ...... it's like being a detective.

I used that link. thanks. I'm an old man new to these chat things. my car was assembled in the Norwood, OH plant in September 1950. The original title says September 19, 1950. I did a title search and found that the original owner retitled it on December 23, 1975 when he put an antique plate on it. The title was then changed to the kid that I bought it from in 1999. He didn't put a plate on it. How does one put a photo on this chat?

To put a photo on Chevy Chatter, go to FAQ & HELP on the top tool bar. Then click on "How do I add an image to my message?" Also, I believe that you must be a member of the VCCA to do so.

Many of us on here are "old men", that's factual.

Happy you discovered where it was born, now the hunt continues for the selling dealer.

Being that you're a new member, you could EMAIL a pic of your vehicle to a VCCA member, then they could post the pic for you, or you could wait until you become a VCCA member.

VCCA is a nice group of folks. Many are seniors, many are pre-seniors, just waiting to catch up with us. dance

Welcome!
