I am restoring a pickup, but I thought a posting here might be more to the point. My truck has the legendarey 216, and it gets a yellow decal on the side of the valve cover (or rocker cover, if you prefer) that says "Thrift Master."

Does anyone know for certain, does this decal go on BOTH SIDES of the valve cover, or just on the passenger side? I usually see it on the one side only, but it seems like they would have actually done both sides?

The truck is a 1953, which is the final appearance of the 216, having already been discontinued in passenger cars by that year. But the engine is exactly the same as the version that was used in the standard shift car in 1951 and '52, in virtually all details .

I have an original valve cover and the Thriftmaster is only on the passenger side. It's also painted on by a stencil, rather sloppily I might add,not a decal.

Thanks, brjr51. I guess that's why I've seen them "one-sided." Makes sense it would have been a stencil. Reproduction decals are available, which have the "breaks" in each letter, like how a stencil would be. Maybe I'll get inspired, and make a copy and stencil it on!

Thanks for looking.

The Thriftmaster decal makes a great stencil. Just hack out the letters with an X-acto knife & ya got a reusable stencil.
