A couple of weeks ago I post a topic about my Chevrolet 137 Master Deluxe which I recently bought. I'vre tried to loacate the serial nrs etc. because I don't know where the car was produced.

I found a tag from the Dutch garage with a chassis and engine number. In the old days GM had a factory in Denmark and Belgium.

Engine nr 474049

Chassis nr XB6 8 547 or XB6 B 547

Does anyone recognize these chassis or engine numbers

Thx

Nice!

2 questions:

1) What are those things on both sides near the mirrors? Proximity sensors?

2) What kind of engineer was Harrie or Harriet?

I assume it was a requirement for all vehicle manufacturers to display the engineer's name on all identification tags?

Damn, I thought I was close...guess my Dutch was way off. blush

Those are interesting turn signals. Were you required to install them in order to be cleared for driving on public roads?

They were used untill the 50s, and it was arranged by law

The turn signals are also called semaphores. I had them on my 57 Beetle. VW used them up until probably 59 or 60 on the European models, yes required by law. In the VW world they have quite a high 'cool' factor.

The "Semaphor" signal was part of the progression from hand signals to flashing indicators. Some European vehicles had them built into the "B" pillar though I havent seen US built vehicles with them.

Hello Pepperoni,

That tag is pretty informative. My USA made '37 Chevrolet Master Deluxe tag is pretty simple compared to your's. The info you are looking for may only be available in the VCCA archives. Unless someone like Chevgene has a book on European made Chevrolets.

It may take a little time, I don't know the process, but I'm confident some one will be able to help or steer you in the right direction.

The GM Copenhagen built 1937-cars, had chassisnumbers written like this:
XB GB-000.
X= Export
B= The factory code of GM Copenhagen plant.
GA= 1937 Chevrolet car with knee action
GB= 1937 Chevrolet "85" car with straight axle.
Your chassis code is XBGB-547 (not XB6B-547).

But your tag is not from GM Copenhagen, it must have been installed in Netherlands.
Here is a picture of an original GM Copenhagen-tag, from a 1939 (JB): https://plus.google.com/u/0/1061406...6011900242&oid=106140633293257147741
