Got it at Wal-Mart spray can Rustoleum, 2X or something to that effect, satin black. After I painted it I really did not like how the pitting shows on the top around the edges. I would have re-done and filled in those pits if I kept it, just me. I will send a pic of the label when I get home.

Russell, great, same paint I used on the other jacks...Looks a lot better then you described though...I have found that the factory jack shaft is in such good shape, plating will not be needed...The universal, now that's another story

Bruce and/or Russ: After you guys get your jacks restore how about one of you posting a picture that shows all the ones avail for 47/48 Chevs. (factory, universal, hydraulic, etc). I'm assuming one of you have all the styles. If not, whichever has the most examples can perform the good deed or each one of you post what you have. Speaking for myself, I would like to have such a picture and I'll bet there are others out there that would also.
Thanks; Dick

Dick to my knowledge, the only one in our group that has a hydraulic jack is Johnny Johnson. He has posted the pic several times..."conv48"

AND.....I know my life ain't worth a plug nickel when I say this..... NO ONE has shown us or has a VARIFIABLE '48 standard jack. If so please let us see it.
Dick, put the jack you just received from me in your base and check the lowest height. Who knows???
Now, back into hiding!!!!!!!

Ed is satisfied that his is a '48. However, his lowest height is 6 3/8, just like Dicks and the '47 spec sheet. Still looking for 7 5/8 to meet '48 spec sheet.
Since I am here, Bruce, thank you so much for the kind gifts. Really, thanks.

The jack that Dick first posted about has PAF, Ed's has 2433537, my standard had PAF. I gave that jack to Dick because his had a dent in the shaft. The only jack I have is the acc. which has 2433537. The 49-54 jack I got for my uncle has 2433537. As far as I have been able to determine the 2433537 number was assigned/approved on December 30, 1947. So it is my belief that number was stamped on all and any jack with slight variations '48-'54 sometime after that date. Exactly when in '48 that started is unknown to me. I do not remember exactly when the '48's began production, but it was sometime in January '48. Soooo... FOR ME a jack with 2433537 on it is incorrect for '47 and earlier. A jack with PAF in a '48 IS possibly as it is understandable that these PAF jacks were on site and in warehouses until replaced with the newer batch. ALSO the newer '48 supply had a change, although it is unknown what, other than the specified lower lift height was now 7 5/8" instead of 6 3/8" for '47. I know (Charlie) that this has been beat to death but the fact remains (spec. sheets) states 6 3/8" for '47 only. 7 5/8" for '48 only. All these measurements pertain to the standard jack. AGAIN... Is it possible that a '47 spec. jack was put in a '48 production run, absolutely. But for me I would PERFER one that meets the '48 spec.. OR one of the accessory jacks. Just me!!!!! Sorry Charlie and I'm sure others by now. Dick check the measurements on the one I sent you?

[quote=ruscar Dick check the measurements on the one I sent you? [/quote] My you hit this chat early in morning! Using the shaft you sent me and my base the lowest lifting height measured 6-3/". Why don't you take off your T-Bar, add the emblem to the trunk lid and put the narrow belt moldings on your 48 Fleetline Sportmaster to make it a 47. Then we can get you a factory jack to go with the car. Looks like that might be the easier way to go. dick

Looks like I must have insulted Russ when I suggested that he convert his 48 to a 47. Hopefully that is not the case.
I see I made a small typing error in the prev post regarding lowest lifting height of the jack. Should read 6-3/8"
Also would like to thank Ken48 for providing info on where I could get an item.
Dick

Again, thanks! Back in early 2011 when I started back to work on the car I painted the hood hinges and the hood latch and other pieces that were silver looking. I was not happy with the results. I called the shop that had started the resto and how they would have done this. The answer was to use zinc plating . I ask, why not cad plating? They told me that for the early era cars they found the zinc came closer to original. May or may not be the case for all. So I blasted the pieces again and sent them to be zinc plated. Two years later I sent the fold-down bumper guard and misc. pieces and had those zinc plated. If you visit their site click on rack plating. You will find they do all finishes. When I called the other day I talked to Ronnie, the owner, to get a price. I figured they surly had a price increases over the past few years. Anyway, was told they have a minimum of $80.00 plus return shipping cost. He ask if I was just sending the one shaft. Yes. I ask what prep work I needed to do. He said if it only had light rust he would bead blast. He does not recommend heavy sand blasting because it leaves the surface too rough. The blast cabinet I have use of is at my local NAPA store and it uses a very, very fine medium. So I did go ahead and clean the teeth area on the shaft. Left the rest for them to bead blast. Zinc and cad plating is very thin. Does not build up or fill any blemishes. If you have anything you don't want to show, you have to sand out. Just like preparing for paint. Anyway, I guested shipping would be less than $20. ($14.95) I sent him $110. A lot, maybe. Worth it, yes, for me! Now, FYI, two or three jack shafts would be only a few dollars more. ?$20-$30?, plus the increase in shipping. DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RECOMMENDING ANYONE USE THIS PLACE!!!! Just relaying MY experience with three (zinc) projects by them.
