Yes, I started more than once to mail you about it. Might ask Mike what he wants for it. He is quite reasonable.

Can hardly wait for my exhibit "B". devil

On my new jack soon to arrive, I am a bit worried about the shaft it appears to be slightly rounded at the bottom. Don't no how well it will fit in the base. I have though seen several different jacks on the same style base "with the circle"

I think it is the angle of the photo. Confident it is the same as the base. Well, pretty confident. Like I said, started to mail you several times but did not want to be responsible of a mistake if wrong. Think positive, I am!!!

Looking at the body, it is definitely made by Walker.

Russell the jack I am referring to is the one from Broth Auto "I have not received yet" Note the bottom of the shaft in the pic
is kind of rounded like the factory jack...Your stand is not the issue it fits the 49-54 great!!"the one on the base"

Yes I understood that. Don't worry!!

I found out something today, possibly a '48 standard jack. I don't know if anybody besides the two of us are still tagging along here. Might need to start jacks 3 and see if anyone else comes back.

It seems like we have alienated all the '48 people. Dave has not replied, Dale said his jack seems to be wrong. Ed's jack apparently was made in '48 but does not meet the specs. I don't know where to turn if maybe I have found one that does meet the specs. How can it be verified??? LOST!!

I know I will never find a 48 accessory hydraulic, but I will not give up on the universal. We will see soon if our 2 new purchases are the same??About a week..At least we will have found true clarity on this issue...Don't blame the judges, blame those how do not find correct documentation....Could there have been a 49 universal jack, different then the 49-54..when did the roller really come on the sene?Anyone have a 49 accessory book?

I'm still here, watching and learning. Since my cars & jacks are 47's I'm just going along for the ride regarding you guys documenting the 48s

The universal replacement jack was usually not the same jack that came with the car. It was a cheaper version.
I don't have a picture of a 1949 jack (if I did I wouldn't belive it as they used the same pictures over and over) and the 1950 parts book list the part number and appl;ication as being the same for 1949 and 1950 plus the same base is lister for replacemetn for both years.
Also no acessory friction or hydraulic jacks are shown for 1949.

Thank you Gene and Dick for your interest and support! luv2

The standard jack:

The question from me is this! We know from the spec. sheet that there is something different for the '48 from the '47. The lowest lift height. Again confirmed in the '49 engineering manual. Something. Now I have coming a jack and base combo where the jack part is identical to the '47 pictured here. However the base is slightly different. I ask the seller to measure the combo for me and he came up with 7 5/8. That is what the '48 spec. sheet called for. Again the only difference is in the base. Now based on that and that alone, to me , this may be a '48. BUT until a time machine comes along what and how to know.

The only that can be proved is that there was something changed foe every year jack based solely on the spec. sheets for each year, '46, '47, '48, and '49! sick

I know, I know, who cares! togo

Since April 13 when I first brought up the subject of bumper jacks there has been 205 posts with 4813 views (vast majority after April 15 when Russ open "part 2") so I think it is safe to assume there are a lot of watchers who are interested.

Are we to assume "Jack" has expired? flush
I have been checking daily and have not seen any of his writings since May 28th. Well, he certainly lived a long life staying active right to the end. He was dedicated to the purpose of educating others in the differences between various mechanical equipment used to elevate objects.
He will be missed by all his friends and followers. We can take comfort knowing that he most likely is resting in a much higher location. newangel

Not by a long shot! Simply waiting on more ammunition to reload. Don't expect it here until later this coming week. idea

Received the two jacks I bought in the name of research for the '48.

First, the good news. This looks like a home run to me.

Pretty sure these are the same. Looks like it will pass for the '48 accessory jack. Don't see anything to dispute looking at the two. wave
Not so good news later. mad

And now, the bad news. [Linked Image from pic100.picturetrail.com] [Linked Image from pic100.picturetrail.com]

When I found this for sale I ask the seller to measure the lowest lifting height. He replied with 7 5/8". Just what I was hoping for. When it arrived yesterday, I removed it from the box and found the base was stuck on the shaft. I figured it was just rusted there. I sprayed with oil and waited. While waiting I lowered it and checked the measurement. Sure enough 7 5/8". The base also measured 7" x 7". After about 30 minutes I was able to work the base loose. Then the disappointment! It was not the correct base to the jack. The shaft was just wedged into a round receptacle that is a little smaller than the bottom of the jack and was indeed rusted together. If the shaft was to fit to the bottom of the base the measurement would not be 7 5/8". Also after looking it over I found the words "Patent applied for". So in conclusion, it looks to me to be a '47 jack stuck in a unknown base.

So in conclusion, a jack that fits the spec. sheet still eludes me.

'Well I got my universal ?jack...1st ,Russell yours is defiantly correct 48...Mine is the same except!! The bumper bracket is higher, almost the same as the 49?-54...The only other differences are "patent applied for"..Could this be a 49 prior to the roller being added? The shaft is also very long 34"..The 49-54 is 31-1/4 " ..I will send pics tomorrow

Well now, looks like once again, more questions than answers. togo Who knew the lowly bumper jack would insight such confusion and debate. doh

Now, as for your latest. First time I have seen the horn not spot welded with the usual two rectangle spots. crazy The height of 34" is the same as mine. I figured it was that height to accommodate more and different vehicles. You know, universal. Also, it did fit the base. The biggest thing that puzzles me is the absence of a patent number. Also, the absence of the hole on the pictured side of the "horn". Does it have the "W" on the other side?

Now, tell me what you have done/doing with the ?'47 jack pictured?

Mine, I have blasted the base and trying to decide if I want to remove the lifting part and send the shaft to be plated or not. I'm a real tool

W..yes,but it is a block type stamp, not thin...The factory jack,I blasted it and primed it until I decide what I will do..As you can see if the bumper bracket was lowered it would look very close to your correct unit..I think it is late 48 or 49???The base does fit perfectly, better then the 49?54 shaft
