Could it be that they use the crank as a mandrel for the actual pouring, that is one method used in the past, with the crank at the proper operating temp when the babbit is poured and cooled to room temp the shrinkage could be the proper running gap with the rod shimmed, there wouldn't be any scrapeing needed just burnishing? The theory is good, do you reckon it would work?

Isn't that an interesting thought! I don't know enough about the trade but maybe I should get my rods done and then ask for money back for the lone of the crank! Yah, I knew this would work.
My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .
