Now that's a legitimate modification question. :)

Speedline, have you ever had a ball bearing on the front of a late model Chevy (49 to 54) go bad or wear out? I guess I am just lucky, I repack them every 4000 miles and check the brake cylinders and shoes, and I never had one to go bad till just lately, found a bad Japanese plastic bearing cage and replaced it with a NOS New Departure bearing and races..and, Speedline I do like that thumbnail pic. Billy is something else ain't he?

Hi Mack-
Thanks on the pic. It's an old advertising printer's block that I found a long time ago. I knew I'd find a good use for it! Bill sure outdid himself with this idea - a great improvement over the rating system. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

I haven't had a ball bearing go on me but they seem to need more frequent adjustment, and when they get loose they can chew themselves up big time. I agree that ball bearings are dependable with proper maintenance, but the security of added bearing surface and minimum side play makes it a perfect safety modification in my opinion. My Vette has the same front end as the 1949, and when I'm cruising down these winding Northeast mountains those ball bearings are always in the back of my mind. To answer 50 Chev's question: I don't know the #s, but roller bearing kits (all front bearings plus seals) are available from Corvette Central for $179.95. Safety ain't cheap!

Speedline, I didn't mean that roller bearings were not as good or better than balls, But, one reason I haven't changed is I am CHEAP! LOL
