Is there a description on how to install the original style windshield wipers where the rod fits through the hole. After cutting up fingers on both hands I cannot figure out how this thing goes on. I have checked all the manuals (and I have them all now) and either it is not in there or I have missed it. There must be a trick to it. mad

Slip the rod into the hole with the outer cover loose on the shaft. Then just push the outer cover against the spring tension and slip the outer cover over the motor shaft so the "c" clip inside slips into the groove in the shaft. When you release the tension the spring will keep it in the groove. The above is how it works on my 32 and I believe the 36 takes the same set up.

Thanks Steve. Looking at it now that makes sense. I was trying to make it much more difficult than it is.

Glad to help. I went thru the same learning process but luckily my friend helping me had a 36 so after watching me for a couple of minutes (after he stopped laughing) he showed me how it went on.

If you are not a VCCA member then it would benefit you to join and find a local chapter. There are lots of members who can and do offer help. I was fortunate that a member I met at a region meeting was someone I new as a business customer but had no idea that he was interested in old Chevys. We became good friends and without his help I would not have finished restoring my car when I did.
