I have a 1940 master 85 sport coupe body but no frame. What year chassis could I use under it? Does it have to be a "40" or will a 40-48 top hat frame work? I have a chance to get a 40 special deluxe chassis from a four door sedan. I know it has the independent front suspension, not the I beam axle, but I understand the wheelbase is still 113". Thanks

1940 is all by its self. Yes, the 4 door chassis will be fine and will require using the coil spring steering gear.

Can't be a Master 85 Sport Coupe. The Sport Coupe had a back seat and was not made in the Master 85 series. I would assume that you have a business coupe. No back seat and gas filler ahead of the rear fender....gas tank benind the back seat under a wood floor.

It is indeed a sport coupe. Built in Oshawa, Ontario. Model # 1227 which the GM vintage services says is the same as the American model 1524. I have a backseat and gas tank under the trunk with filler in fender. I have to wait till spring to get that chassis but good to know it will work.

As a follow up the 1200 series Canadian models were Master 85 and the 1000 series were special deluxe. No master deluxe series in Canada. I can't find anything info on colour or trim for this in Canada. Paint was #41 and trim was #300.

Paint code 41 was Oshawa Blue.

Those accustomed to the finest...find it in Chevrolet.

Thanks Chevgene for the chassis info. Spring can't come soon enough. I figured it was a dark blue by the underside of the trunk lid. I wasn't able to find any paint chips or the name anywhere. Does anyone have the Canadian paint chips? Some of the original seat fabric looked like a very light olive green.

The Master 85 and Master Deluxe interiors of US cars had a low pile tan mohair.

US cars had two dark blues. One was really dark and metallic. The other was medium dark and a lot of metalic. The later was more common.
