Verne, Do you remember looking at or taking a picture of the pump?

I have no photos of the pump but I recall looking at it and nothing seemed wrong at the time. I remember it looked clean, but everything in the engine compartment had a good bath. I hadn't yet figured out the P/S was added. Verne As for the story about the radiator cap, that style of cap didn't come out until 1968, I believe. I'd say the original was stolen like a lot of parts from cars at that auction.

I didn't see power steering listed on the window sticker. I once owned a 1963 Impala with a 283 and no power steering. It was not fun to drive. I was young and dumber than I am now so I sold it after only a few months. I never thought about adding power steering to the car.
A few years ago I bought a 1961 Impala with a 283 and no power steering, but added power steering when I found a complete set-up at Hershey. It was a pleasure to drive with the power steering. I have to apologize. I was misled by the statement above, which seemed to indicate that the car has P/S now. It does NOT. I went back over the photos I took underneath the car, and confirmed that it has manual steering. I'm still uncomfortable with the amount of dirt and grime on the linkage of an 11mi car though. Verne

The tie rod end looks OK but the clamp and rod look like they are from an older car. Perhaps the parts were used on another car for some reason and now to make the car moveable used parts had to be installed.

If the tie rod had been moved to the replacement sleeve, then I'd expect to see wrench marks disturbing the grease build up on the clamp. It's a mystery. Verne

Another mystery on that car is the application of sound deadener and paint on the underside. It seems that the sound deadener was applied BEFORE the body paint, meaning it went through the bake ovens. Maybe Janesville was experimenting with that process late in the model year, but it's the first instance of that I have seen. The red overspray is on TOP of the sound deadener. I've examined the underside very carefully and there's no doubt it was originally applied that way. Verne

A lot of that treatment was to black out the floor pans and the trunk pan that protruded below the outside of the car, so it would not be visable. So maybe this is not the "Rosetta Stone"

Now owned by a GM dealer in Wisconsin. I wonder what the chances are of getting him to display it in Lake Tahoe in 2016? As I read the story, I thought the "owner of the car" is displaying it at a dealership. Did a dealer purchase the car from the gent who bought it at the auction ?

I was under the impression that the dealer is the gentleman that bought the car… which leads to another point. Is this still a 0 owner, untitled car still on the show room floor??

I think you may be talking about two different cars.

The man who bought it at auction is the first and only titled owner. I agree. That is what I read in the article too.

I think you may be talking about two different cars. Maybe talking about different cars. My conversation concerns the red 1963 Impala.
