What's the best way to remove front pulley on a 39 chev don't have the pulley tool do have 2 and 3 legged pullers though
also how do other members find the wide belts on the chev mine seem to wear and come loose a bit and need adjusting more often than other cars
it seems to bottom out on the engine pulley and the pulley on the generator doesn't seem to be the right angle looks cheaply made
I was thinking of going to the narrow belt would the narrow pulley from a newer chev fit the engine all right thanks tony

If you try and use a jaw type puller you are going to damage the balancer. You need to either borrow or purchase a puller that will allow you to use bolts into the balancer to remove it.

on my `40 , the pulleys match up and fit the fan belt perfectly. Believe it is 5/8 width. Sounds like you have the wrong pulley on the gen. Got my new fan belt locally at a parts store.

Correct, that is how I damaged my water pump pulley.

You can make your own 3 bolt pulley using leaf spring shackles found at automotive stores, however, the money and time spent will far exceed purchasing the right tool.

Buy the tool .. and not a bad idea to pack out the spaces under the two bolts to stop warping the puller .. ( the crank start lump on the front keeps the puller along way off the face).. you may have to use some force as it may not want to just slide off.!!

The Harbor Freight bolt puller kit only costs $12, and surprisingly it had the right bolts needed for the balancer, and removed the pulled without a single cuss word from my mouth.

No reason to change to the narrow belt actually.
