What grease can be used to lubricate the ignition distributor in a 1931 194 engine? I have disassembled mine and want to use fresh grease or lubricant. Any suggestions?

I use high temp bearing grease in the grease cup for the distributor on my '28.

I'm not qualified to comment on one grease over another.

I simply reasoned that the steel distributor shaft slowly rotating in a hot, cast iron sleeve needed a high temp bearing kind of grease. I don't think a chassis grease would be a good fit for this application.

Another consideration is that spent grease from the distributor shaft will ooze onto the distributor drive gear, and therefore into the crankcase, so the grease needs to be compatible with the engine oil.

At least that's my theorizing.

Cheers, Dean

I do a lot of distributor work and I have always used SL3360 --Super Whiteâ„¢ Multi-Purpose Lithium Grease. It is a high quality multi-purpose grease and among its uses it is also recommended for distributors.

Says since 1933, so guess it has been around a while.

Yep....that's the stuff! I buy the grease at NAPA and I get it in a large can instead of the tube. I use lots of the grease!
